Happy Halloween!!

Happy Halloween everyone! This is Nicholas in his costume that Grandma Johanson sent. (We took as many pictures as we could just for her! :) )

Tyler was having fun playing with him before we put him to bed. This little trick-or-treater was tuckered out after all those pictures!

End of October

I'm Back!!! So a lot more has happened since Tyler's original post, I'll try and update you without going into every tiny little detail of his life. But, I'm pretty sure you can tell from the pictures that we are camera happy and are trying to document every little detail... you just don't necessarily need it dictated to you. :)

This kinda goes a little backwards but it shouldn't be too confusing. This morning we went over to Uncle Richard & Aunt Sammi's and so we got Nicholas dressed up in his cool football outfit, because it is game day after all... He also wore his favorite shoes, the Jordans that he wore home from the hospital.

Cousin Jessica loves to hold the baby. If she would get her license, she could come over and hold him any time she wanted! ;)
Everyone takes a turn holding him (after Sammi, of course, she gets him first) so here is Uncle Rich taking his turn, and playing with the burp rag on Nicholas's head.

He makes the cutest faces. This one looks so pathetic, but he really isn't sad. :)
These are random pictures I took I think... yesterday.
He really is a peaceful baby, but I thought I would post this one because he is so dang cute, even when he's upset! No worries, he only cried for a few seconds and then all was well again.

OK so, here are some pictures from the hospital AFTER the hospital. We got released from the Coral Springs Medical Center on Saturday the 24th, and brought him to the pediatrician the next day for a bilirubin test, which was ok, but a little high, so we brought him in again the next day (Monday) and from the day before to then, it had jumped to a 19, which is quite high, so Tyler went to work and I got a ride from a friend in our ward to the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital, where Nicholas was admitted. He was put on the blue light bili blanket where he stayed until Wednesday night. It was sad to be back in the hospital, but we knew it was a pretty routine thing, and that we would be going home soon. But we were so relieved when we finally got to go home, because home is always better. Tyler and I were ready to sleep in our own bed again, instead of sharing a twin size hospital bed.

We love this picture, becuase he does this all the time, puts his little hands behind his head. He's just chillin'

The light of the blanket can do damage to his eyes, so he had to wear these little shades, but they kept coming off his face with the strap behind his head, so we ended up taping them to his face with the paper tape. He really didn't like them, and we were torn, because he was so cute in them, but we hated to do that to him.
Here's our little glow worm.

On Wednesday afternoon my mom got into town to help us out with the baby and the household stuff for a while, and so this was her meeting her newest grandson for the first time.

He always sticks his legs out straight like this, when we're changing his diaper, or when he's eating, or whenever he feels like it, which is often.

Baby Nicholas

OK I am officially updating this!: (Tiffany)

Since Tiffany is the Blog Master she will edit this post later for narrative purposes. I just wanted to get pics up for those who wanted them. Tyler - Interim Blog Master

OK So here is the story: On Wednesday the 21st Tyler and I went to the OB/GYN office for my weekly checkup, and I was also scheduled for an ultrasound that visit. So we did the ultrasound and the technician said that everything was great, the baby was in great shape and had a strong heartbeat and was growing perfectly on schedule, and was ready to come at any time. She measured the fluid levels last though, and said it was low. So, when we went to the other side for our checkup, I could tell something was up. They said I was going to see one of the main doctors and I heard them talking around the corner. I wasn't too worried though because no one seemed worried, it just seemed different. Well, when the doctor came in she checked me and I was only dilated to a one and not really progressing that way. Then she said that because the fluid was low they were going to start me that day. Yes, that day. You should have seen the look on Tyler's face as he realized that the time to prepare was up. LOL it was awesome! I seriously wish I had a camera at that moment to capture that, but sadly it will only be available to me in my memory...

Anyway, the doctor told us to eat lunch and get my bag, and then to check into the hospital by one at the latest. So, I went and hung out with Shelly and Janice while Tyler drove home and picked up my bag and everything else that we could think of. (We made a list so he wouldn't forget, because at that point we were just lucky if he remembered to BREATHE)

We checked into the hospital that afternoon, and hunkered down for a long wait. They administered a doo-dad to help me start dilating properly, and hooked me up to all the monitors. I was apparently having mild contractions regularly but not ones that I could really feel, or that were affecting me significantly, so I was relatively comfortable for that whole first day. I even snuck some salad (because the nurse said it was still ok, off the record). The next morning early, they came in and checked me again, and started the Pitosin in my IV. Every 1/2 hour they increased the drip. Sometime in the late afternoon, I really started to feel the contractions. The rest is history, I guess I labored for about 5 hours or so, and pain management was definitely my friend. After a couple of hours my water broke, and I got the nurse in there asap to call down the anesthesiologist. He put in the epidural, but when he tried to put the medicine in, it wasn't going down the tubes because of a faulty piece, so he had to take it out, and redo the whole thing. He was extremely apologetic, but when it was all done, and I was feeling it's effects, I told him I didn't even care, he was still my best friend in the whole wide world. :) So, from that point on things went pretty fast, and once we got down to it, it took 3 or 4 contractions of pushing and the next thing I knew there was a baby on my stomach. I told the nurses it was easier than I had expected it to be, and they all chuckled. For at least 2 of the contractions they were all just chatting about who knows what, I wasn't paying attention, and I felt the contractions, and was like "can I please push now?" and they were like, "oh, yeah of course!" I was like, Hello! But it really was good, the nurses and doctor were so good, and Tyler was so great for the whole thing.
Once the baby came, he was in charge of taking all the pictures and video he could possibly take, and he was given the option to cut the cord or not. I told him if he didn't want to, I'd let him off the hook for that part. But he decided to, and wasn't even that grossed out. LOL. So, on October 22, 2009 at 9:04 pm we welcomed our 6lb 12 oz, 21 inch long baby boy into this world, and we decided to name him Nicholas Tyler Johanson.
So, I was kind of in shock after the delivery, and once I got to actually see my baby (I mean really see him, and hold him) I was just amazed. You can never really imagine what your baby is actually going to look like once he enters this world. This apparently is what it looks like when Tyler and I make a baby:

He is just so perfect, I know every mom says that, but I am still to this day constantly amazed at just how perfect he is!

He has such long fingers and toes. And he loves to stick out his legs straight as can be and he stretches out his toes like this. It's so funny, but I do that too! I never knew not everyone can stretch their toes out like that, until I got married and Tyler would always laugh at me for it.

Baby Showers and Crib

Some ladies from our ward threw us a baby shower. It was so much fun, especially since we're still getting to know everyone. This was a great chance to visit and get to know people. :)

One of the ladies in the ward gave us this blanket with lobsters on it, because she knows we won't be down here permanently, so she wanted us to take a bit of culture with us. :) It's awesome!

We got a lot of diapers from the ward members, and are SO grateful for that. It is going to help so much!!
Later, my Aunt Sammi threw me a shower. She was funny because the very minute I told her I was pregnant, she started planning the shower. She loves throwing any kind of showers, and this one was so much fun! All of our family out here was invited as well as some long time friends of my Grandma's.

I have to agree with Sammi that one of the best parts of any shower is the punch! This one was no exception. I had probably 4 or 5 servings :)
Me and Aunt Bobbi
Grandma Rhoda and Stacy
Jessica and Me (notice the cup of punch in my hand)
Uncle Rich and Stacy

Grandma and her friends chatting around the table :)

Shelly and Janice
Proof that Joseph was in attendance. :)
Aunt Bobbie took me to pick out the colors for this afghan that she has been making for all the new babies a few months ago, and I finally got to see it. :) Of course I had to pick Orange & Blue. The green is because alligators are green. :)
We loved this onsie, SO AWESOME!

mmmm cake!

So, it was a fun day of parties, family and friends. We're so grateful to everyone who came and gave us so much love and support! This baby is going to have a plethera of people surrounding him with love. We definitely miss our family and friends back in Utah but are grateful we live here in Southern Florida close to other family and friends, especially during this time!
Last night, we decided it was time to use some of the gift cards we received from our shower in Utah, which we'd been holding onto until we got closer to B-Day. We went and bought a crib and bedset (among other things) but I had to post the pictures of Tyler putting it up, as well as show off the end result. :) So cute!

Perfect fit!

Another doctors appointment tomorrow.... In the meantime, we're just waiting and walking and working and waiting. :)

Welcome!
