OK, so it's a bit overdue but I need to do it before it becomes totally ridiculous. Like thank you cards a year after we got married... But I digress.
We got to go visit family in Utah last month (February) and it was a much needed vacation right in the middle of my pregnancy. We stayed with my parents this time and got to see their new house for the first time. It was lovely and we're so happy for them. Nicholas loved it, and did very very well despite the fact that 1/2 of the days were sleep deprived and almost all overloaded his senses to the max. I think he was in heaven.
So, the first whole day we were there, Nicholas saw snow out the window and must have recognized it from TV or something. He kept asking "Boopa" if they could "make a snowman." So when we went to the park to play there was just enough on a patch of grass for my dad to help him make a tiny snowman. Nicholas didn't mind the cold at all, and when we tried to get him to head back to the house because we were frozen it took quite a bit of convincing. Here is our park fun. Also, for some reason Nicholas kept trying to kick over the snowman. Not sure where he learned that either, but I guess that's why you build snowmen is to knock them down?... Still haven't figured that one out.
One afternoon my Mom, Dad, and Chelley took Nicholas to the aquarium while I stayed home and got some much needed rest. He had a blast and kept talking about it for days. He especially loved the Sharks, and got to bring some toy sharks home. He says they say "Arrr! I'm gonna eat you!" in a growly voice.
Then that night, my mom and sister and I all went for a girls night out before we picked up Tyler from the airport. This is me enjoying my gelato and some rocky road fudge from a couple of the shops at Soda Row by my parent's house. I've been craving more of that fudge for a couple of weeks now and am currently trying to figure out how to bribe my mom to send me some. :)
The day after Tyler arrived (Saturday), we went and spent the whole day with the Johansons. They took us to Boondocks for an afternoon of fun. After that we went to their house for family dinner. It was fun and Nicholas had so much fun playing with his cousins. His favorite parts that he kept talking about for days were playing with Sierra, riding "race cars" (go carts) with his Daddy, and bowling. Now he's obsessed with bowling, and a few of the friends we've played with since have little bowling sets that end up being the hot toy to play with (and fight over).
He loves to look out the windows in his bedroom, and so he was in heaven with these windows that were just right for him to stare out of for as long as his little heart desired.
The downside to the trip was that he was battling colds and congestion the whole time, but I couldn't resist taking a picture of him in his cold medicine coma nap. Just when you think they can't get any cuter, you go in and check on them while they're sleeping, and that becomes the new cutest moment of their lives. :)
This was a fun heart shaped onion ring that we had at Applebee's at the Gateway. We met up with Chelley and KL for lunch. Unfortunately besides the company and the onion ring, it was not the best dining experience. But on the bright side, my mom's meal was free! lol
We went and watched the water fountains at the Gateway for a few minutes, and afterward Tyler helped to keep Nicholas warm by letting him bury his face in his neck. Such a good daddy.
One of the main reasons for the trip was to go to Las Vegas for Tyler's academic competition called the Turf Bowl. The boys from UF got 12th place, which is pretty good considering there were about 90 teams and the top 10 get trophies and reward money. Next year they will be top 10 for sure, I just know it! And next year it will be in San Diego, so there will be less hangovers involved. We drove down to Vegas with my parents, and had a fun little road trip. We made pretty good time, stopping as little as possible. We had lots of adventures, got sort of "lost" on the strip and walked way more than we wanted to. Saw a lot of sights, and Nicholas was happy as a clam in his stroller. My dad was pleased that all of the flyer people left us alone since they saw the pregnant lady and the 2 year old. I didn't think they cared, but apparently they do because we weren't offered a single flyer.
Here is a picture of me in Vegas. I've been told that different angles of the camera make me look bigger in these pictures than I really am. Here's my thing: If I look that big at any angle, I'M THAT BIG. I certainly feel that big, so telling me I'm not doesn't make me feel any better! LOL (Love you all!!!)
And finally, in the airport to fly home... Nicholas was not as pleased about this airplane ride as he was the first, but he was also much sicker. He had gotten a fever the day before, which he hadn't had for the whole 2 weeks of colds he'd been fighting already. Poor little guy... I think he kind of looks like Quasimoto in this picture though. Or Gollum. (Still cute, just the way he's hunched over trying to climb out)
